Rock & Roll Martian

Lyrics by my buddy and award winning playwright Shane Kelly. Little did he know this song would go on to produce not one but TWO failed musical theater adaptations, and many more to come.

Rock & Roll Martian

Fun with PSA's

I haven't posted anything in here since my move to Baltimore, so I figured it's about time to end the (geez, six months?) silence and post something. Here's a video my roommates made for The Maryland Lawyers for The Arts. It won us slight cash and a pizza/wine bar smorgasbord. Check out David's vimeo page and watch his other videos!

Rap War

A young man sits at a bar, watching a local singer. He is holding a guitar case, anxious to follow the singer, but clearly enjoying the music. The singer finishes and the young man goes onstage. His set unfolds amateurish but showing great promise. His stage banter is a little too modest, apologizing for his performance when the audience is clearly satisfied. He finishes and leaves the stage where a friend approaches and congratulates him. He thanks his friend while noticing that the singer who preceded him is sitting at the bar. Feeling confident from his performance, the young man decides to approach the singer who very strongly impressed him.

-Great set man!
The singer stares coldly.
-…Uh, really great! Best I’ve seen of yours probably. I was sweating bullets that I had to follow you.
The singer stands and leaves his seat, clearly insulted.
The young man returns to his friend, confused by the exchange.
-Well he was pissy.
-Yeah, I’m surprised you even approached him.
-Why’s that?
-Your new apartment. He thought he was going to get it. My roommate put a word in for him before I put a word in for you.
-You didn’t tell me that.
-I didn’t? Well that explains why you moved in for the kill like that. I would’ve expected you to just step out of the away and avoid the whole conflict.
The young man watches the singer leave the bar.

Biblio Rappin'

Katie, Skyler and I recorded a rap about Beowulf this past winter. I had an english class in high school where a bunch of cute black girls decided to make their final project on Beowulf a rap about antagonizing the Grendel. You could tell they were totally psyched on the idea while they were writing it, but they were so shy while performing it that all you could really make out was the phrase "Where you goin Grendel? Where you goin Grendel?" etc. We tried filling in the blanks for a fun rap experiment. Man do I wish I got to say "rap experiment" more.

We wrote and performed it in one afternoon so don't judge it too harshly. Sessions got cut short by Katie's job, and also me and Skyler got sugar tummy aches from all his mom's cookies. We've been curious to get some reactions about it though. Hope it's atleast entertaining. I think Skyler did a cool job editing it all together with calls from blogsontape.
